Artist's Description
Red Cardinal Watercolor Painting, The Emperor, was my first cardinal painting. The male North American Cardinal is a large, long tailed songbird with a short, very thick bill and prominent crest. These birds are a brilliant red with black mask and throat. Cardinals, in the family Cardinalidae, are passerine birds found in North and South America. They are also known as cardinal-grosbeaks and cardinal-buntings. They are a perfect combination of familiarity, conspicuousness, and style: a shade of red you cannot take your eyes off. The Cardinal is the official state bird of no fewer than seven eastern states to include Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia.

About Ali Baucom
I have had the innate love of creating art since as far back as I can remember. My older sister teases me that I liked drawing so much, that when I was 3 years old, I climbed over her bed and ate her crayons that she had tried to hide from me. This passion continued through the years landing me in the National Art Honor Society in high school where I helped organize and bring the Very Special Arts Festival to our county. I then volunteered with the event for 11 years after graduation. I have had artwork hanging in England, Canada, Australia, and in over 7 states in the United States. I have also donated framed artwork and/or merchandise to the Annual...
